Guest Cepheus Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 Been trying to get round to doing the service on my Gal for the last 3000 miles now, but only found time to replace the plugs lol Sooo ... decided to book her in for the main service at Reg Vardy Wolverhampton on Wednesday. :) Just wondering if anyone had anything interesting to say about them. I've always found the parts department VERY unFraud like and helpful (always just ask for your reg no and find the right part that way instead of second guessing) Been quoted Quote

tim-spam Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Gets the boxing gloves out yet againInteresting... But, seriously though, I have never heard of a service schedule on a modern car that requires the stripping down of brakes (whatever they mean by that - probably just an excuse to charge more - it may even just mean removing the wheels...). Unless the handbrake cable has stretched (very unlikely), there is nothing to adjust on the brakes. Checking the brakes for general condition and operation, however, is not only a very good idea, it's an essential part of any service. Quote

Just tried to get more out of them as to what the brake work involves and all they would tell me is that they inspect, clean and reset them??? but this was just the service receptionist reading from a list. Will ask more on Wednesday when dropping the car off as I'm intreagued now too. Quote

Guest Cepheus Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 Dropped car off now - wasn't a very good start to the experience! As I need the car back for 1pm at the latest (am in work at 3pm), I was asked to take it down early when I booked it, so I did. When booking it in at reception I was told "We'll give you a ring in the afternoon when it's done" I explained to the receptionist that it was here early so it could be done by 1pm as explained when booking the service. "Oh we can't guarantee that, we do have other cars to do as well" came the reply! "And how many have arranged during booking to have it done by 1pm?" "Just yours" she said. "And how long does the service take?" I asked "about 2-3 hours for a major service" said she "So as I'm here at 8am, you have 5 hours to do it, so what's the problem?" "Like I said, we'll try our best - give us a ring at about 11 for a progress report" Just phoned them and they haven't started it yet! God help them if it isn't done in time! I'm taking bets now on crushed sills and wrong oil used when I come to pick it up!!!  Quote
NikpV Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 12:19 and Cepheus is still logged on not looking good for Reg Vardy at the moment   Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 12:19 and Cepheus is still logged on not looking good for Reg Vardy at the moment   Had a phone call 10 minutes ago advising that they had started work on the car and had noticed that one of the dash bulbs was out behind the speedo and did I want them to fix it while they had the car. I politely told them to stop bothering me with trivia like that and get the bloody work done I was paying them to do by the time they said they would do it!!! "but it would be an MOT failure sir!""are you MOTing the car today?" i rebuttled"no we aren't sir""then just service it please!"  Quote
adrianf. Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 Oh dear.Very true thoIve had same problem before, need the car to get the kids from school so dropped it off at the crack of dawn only to find its still not done by the time they PROMISED when booking it in Quote

Guest Cepheus Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 Just got back from picking the car up. Service work seems fine, right oil used, sills fine. Only complaint would be that they hadn't reset the service indicator :D Got a price of Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 Just replaced the dash bulb on the way to work tonight - again in Halford's car park - took me 10 mins in the dark and Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 ............ and they've overfilled the oil! Just had chance to check it and it's the same distance over the max mark as the distance between the min and max mark (if that makes sense!) I'll be preparing my phonecall to the Service Manager overnight ..... :( Quote
NikpV Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 over a litre then :( 2/10 for Reg Vardy e for effort   Quote

tim-spam Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 Reading this thread makes me very glad that I do all my own servicing and repair work. It seems that many people spend at least as much time getting a dealer to service their cars as I take to service my own - I wonder if they'd get more efficient if they had to pay their customers Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 Couldn't agree more! After my call to the service manager this morning, 5 minutes ago 2 tatoo clad apes turned up to check the oil level. "hmmm yes, that is a bit high isn't it" was the diagnosis! They have now taken the car away to rectify. My compensation claim will follow upon return of the car in perfect working order! Quote
adrianf. Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 What is it with country nowadays.Nobody gives a toss anymore and no one has any job satisfaction. So what if your car is over full with oil, thats your problem not mineI only let the chimps have it if i really have to.Doing my own servicing means the service book doesnt get stamped but so what.At least i know what has been done has been done right Quote
Smilge Posted November 23, 2006 Report Posted November 23, 2006 Completely agree with Adrian .... Sorry to hear about your problems with Reg Vardy Paul .... wouldnt you think they would do THEIR job properly to retain customers? I know if I didnt do mine it would cost us Tax payers a fortune! That's one dealer off the list then and I shall mention it to my colleagues who said they had no problems with them! Chris Quote
